The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10)

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ

So what makes the name of  the Lord Jesus so powerful that even the demons (evil spirit, devil or fiend)  run at the sound of it?

In the Christian Holy Bible, in the Book of Matthew 1:21, an angel declares to Joseph, Virgin Mary’s future husband, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

The angel was prophesying the purpose of the birth of the Lord Jesus who will save His people from their sins–a Savior!

The Lord Jesus went about the countryside preaching the gospel and healing those with infirmities using His supernatural (supernatural mid 15c., “above nature, transcending nature, belonging to a higher realm,”) abilities:

All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the spirits. (Proverbs 16:2)

  • …and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities (Luke 5:15)
  • And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons. (Mark 1:39)

Listed below are several examples of individuals being delivered or released from evil spirits by the Lord Jesus Christ and by the seventy who were followers of the Lord Jesus invoking the name of “Jesus.”

Mary Magdalene:

  • Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. (Mark 16:9)
  • and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons (Luke 8:2)

The demon-possessed man:

  • 26 Then they sailed to the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. 27 And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!” 29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.
  • Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” because many demonshad entered him.

    (Luke 8:30)

Can you imagine a legion?  A legion in the Roman infantry of men is from 3,000 to 6,000!

  • 31 And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss. 32 Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. 33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned. (Luke 8:31-33)

The Seventy:

  • Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” (Luke 10:17)

The Mute:

  • And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute spoke; and the multitudes marveled. (Luke 11:14)

Of course, Jesus was empowered by the Holy Spirit to create His miracles of deliverance.  He promised His followers, the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

  • And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Call on the name of the Lord Jesus; establish a relationship, get baptized in the Holy Spirit so you, too, can be empowered to cast out demons in His name:

  • 21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. (Acts 2:21)

Strong Tower

  • You who love the Lord, hate evil!  He preserves the souls of His saints;  He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.  (Psalm 97:10)

I hate evil!  It’s thoughtless, it’s being spiteful, it valueless; it’s all that I abhor.

So what is evil?

The dictionary defines evil as:

adjective:
1.   morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked: evil deeds; an evil life.
2.   harmful; injurious: evil laws.
3.   characterized or accompanied by misfortune or suffering; unfortunate; disastrous: to be fallen on evil days.
4.  due to actual or imputed bad conduct or character: an evil reputation.
5.   marked by anger, irritability, irascibility, etc.: He is known for his evil disposition.
noun:
1.  the force in nature that governs and gives rise to wickedness and sin.
2.  anything causing injury or harm
Pick up a newspaper, a magazine, or watch the local news and you’ll see stories involving violence, murder, neglect, or apathy to do that which is “right”.
People wonder why bad things happen to good people.  Even the criminal justice slips and sends an innocent person to prison.   Bad things do happen.
The following scriptures reflects a parable that the Lord Jesus gave involving an individual who actually took time out of his own busy schedule to help someone who had been beaten and robbed and left half dead by the roadside:
  • 30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
  • 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
  • 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.
  • 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.
  • 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
  • 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’
  • 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
  • 37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”  (Luke 10:30-37)

Wow, a Priest and a Levite (holy men of God), both passed by and did nothing to help this beaten up man.

A Samaritan (who is a man from a tribe detested by the Jewish) didn’t even question the nationality of the victim.  He just took mercy and compassion on the man, actually helps him up and gets him a room to shelter him and pays for his stay until his return, promising to make up the difference on the expenses to the innkeeper with instructions to restore the injured man.

Whenever I heard this story, I always took it at face value, lending a helping hand whenever and wherever it’s needed.

At least until recently.  There is another layer, a spiritual layer, revealed here:  This is a picture of  the mugger, the thief, who is Satan; the victim is the church–you and I. The innkeeper is the Holy Spirit, and, of course, the good Samaritan is Jesus Christ who took mercy and compassion on the beaten, lost, the abandoned, the downtrodden, the loveless.

Jesus Christ, who paid for our spiritual necessaries, anoints us with the oil of gladness, and gives us wine (also representative of the Holy Spirit).

You’ll note that Jesus  says:  “when I come again, I will repay you.”  This is Christ in heaven until His return, then He dispenses judgment.

So I leave you with this thought:  “I am about my father’s business.”  Are you?

Are you ready/are you prepared to meet Him, the God who created you?

Recently, I was requested to post an article in Christian Daily Resources. The article is as follows:     You Must Be Born Again

As a professional investigator, I like to believe that I have an inquisitive mind and I require proof when stories or events need further explanation (or they’re beyond belief).

So, I thought diligently and prayed to the Lord for guidance.  Finally, it just came to me that in order for people to “understand” the Holy Bible and it’s scriptures, one must be born again!  I’ve had so many friends and family members complain that they don’t understand the scriptures.

I’ve often explained to them that all anyone needs to do is just read.  Understanding comes from the Lord.  But if the understanding doesn’t come right then and there, then wait because the Lord  already knows to provide the understanding.  It will come in due time.  He may provide an individual schooled in the scriptures, He could provide a movie that makes reference to the issue, or perhaps, He will just “drop” the understanding into our spirit!  The scriptures can take on the scope of  bits of a puzzle waiting to be pieced together.  They provide our foundation for our day-to-day standards.

However, I also say that reading the bible requires commitment that translates into a habit to read the bible consistently.

Now about being born again, Jesus discussed with Nicodemus, a Pharisee, in the Book of John, Chapter 3:1-3 :

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”

10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?”

Jesus is saying one must be born again spiritually in John 3:8.  So to be born again spiritually, one simply acknowledges:

  • That Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • That Jesus Christ is the Son of God
  • That Jesus Christ died and was raised on the 3rd day (spiritually)
  • That Jesus Christ saved us from our sins and eternal condemnation (salvation)
  • That Jesus Christ redeemed us (reinstated our rightful position with Father God)
  • That whoever believes in Jesus Christ shall inherit eternal life

I know this sounds like too much or even unbelievable; however, the bible testifies to the truth of God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. I know because I took my commitment seriously, acknowledged Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and I’ve never regretted it.  It’s an adventure. My spirit woke up.  I became more aware, more conscious of  what I believed in, why I believed it, and what life genuinely means.

Knowing God, having a relationship, by and through Jesus Christ,  and the Holy Spirit, is anything but boring.  Ask Father God anything, in the name of Jesus, and believe, and you will receive His response.  (Reminder: ask for the will of God to be revealed to you—don’t ask in an inappropriate manner like greed.)

There is so much to learn, to experience, and to pass to generations by teaching of all that God has done for us and through us as willing vessels to do his will.  Don’t deprive yourself of His benefits, because His benefits become your benefits.  It’s your life, live it and live it abundantly!

Do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ?  No?  Then pray this prayer of salvation:

Prayer of Salvation

We don’t deserve it; He Is Willing to Give It to You

Heavenly Father:  I come to your throne of  Grace, Splendor, and Majesty  in the name of Jesus Christ.  Your Word says that “whosoever shall call on the name of  the Lord, shall be saved” and “if thou shall confess with thy mouth, the name of  the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thy heart, that He died and that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

You said that my salvation would be the result of  the Holy Spirit giving me new birth by coming to live in me and that if I would ask, you would fill me with your Spirit and give me the ability to speak in other tongues.

I take you at your word:  I confess that Jesus Christ is your son and is Lord.  I believe that He died and you raised him from the dead.  Father God, please forgive me of my sins, transgressions and iniquities–my faults and weaknesses.  I’m sorry.

Thank you for coming into my heart, for giving me your Holy Spirit, as you promised, and for being Lord over my life. Amen.

If you prayed the Prayer of Salvation, then indeed, you are born again.
